What sets us apart

Why homeowners and GCs choose our drywall repair

01

Invisible patches

We feather compound wide, match your existing texture, and prep for paint so repairs read as original wall - not a rectangle you can spot from across the room.

02

Root-cause diagnosis

Recurring cracks usually mean framing movement or a moisture source. We diagnose why before we patch, so you're not calling us back next year for the same crack.

03

Section replacement when needed

Small holes get patched. Damaged sections get cut out cleanly and re-hung - because a giant blob of joint compound is not a repair.

04

Texture matching, all types

Smooth, orange peel, knockdown, skip-trowel, and vintage hand-troweled textures - we sample and match before final application.

05

Same-day availability

For urgent repairs (insurance photos, listing prep, damage before a showing), we work you into the schedule quickly. Just call.

06

Clean job site

Plastic and floor protection go down first. We contain dust with sanders that vacuum as they go and leave your space cleaner than we found it.

Every kind of drywall damage we repair

Doorknob holes, furniture impact holes, TV-mount and shelf-anchor pull-outs, settlement cracks along seams and corners, stress cracks above doors and windows, nail pops, tape lifting or bubbling, popcorn ceiling gouges, water-stained ceiling patches, mud-cracked corners, and full sections damaged by leaks, break-ins, or renovation demo. If it's drywall and it needs to look right again, we handle it.

The patch process - done properly

For anything larger than a nail hole, we don't just smear compound over the damage. We cut the damaged area back to solid drywall on stud/joist centers when possible, install a backer or new drywall piece, tape the seams with mesh or paper, and apply 2-3 coats of compound with each coat feathered wider than the last (typically 8", 12", 16"). Sanding between coats, texture applied to match, primer, and you're ready for paint. Skipping any of these steps is why bad patches look bad.

Why cracks come back - and how we stop it

A crack in the same place for the third time means the underlying problem isn't drywall - it's framing movement, foundation settlement, or seasonal moisture cycling. We inspect the framing behind chronic cracks, add proper backing or paper tape (mesh alone flexes and cracks come back), and use setting-type compound instead of premixed for the base coats where movement is a concern. Recurring cracks near cathedral ceilings, over garages, or on additions almost always need this treatment.

Water damage & ceiling repair

Water-stained drywall isn't just cosmetic - the paper facing may have delaminated, hidden mold may be growing behind the panel, and the gypsum core loses strength when wet. We identify wet material with a moisture meter, cut out anything soft or stained, address the leak (or coordinate with your plumber/roofer), and install new panels finished to match. For dedicated water-damage work, see our water-damaged drywall repair page.

Texture matching - the make-or-break step

A perfectly hung patch with the wrong texture looks worse than the original damage. We take reference photos and hand samples of the surrounding texture (knockdown timing, orange peel spray pressure, hand-trowel pattern) and mock up test samples before applying to the wall. Once matched, textured, and primed, the patch disappears under paint.

Methodology

How a drywall repair project runs with our crew

01

Assessment

We inspect the damage, check for underlying issues (moisture, framing movement), and quote a firm price.

02

Prep & cut-out

Floor protection down, damaged material removed cleanly, backing installed where needed.

03

Patch, tape, coat

New drywall or backer piece secured. Taped, mudded, and sanded through 2-3 coats - each feathered wider.

04

Texture & prime

Existing texture matched and applied, patch primed and ready for paint (or we arrange painting).

Frequently Asked

Drywall Repair - answered

How much does drywall repair cost?

+

Small hole repairs (fist-sized or smaller) typically run $150-$350 including texture match and paint prep. Larger patches, ceiling repairs, or full section replacements range $400-$1,200+ depending on size, texture complexity, and access. We give firm quotes on site - no hourly guessing.

How long does drywall repair take?

+

A small patch is often a single visit with a return trip for final coat and texture (2-3 days total including dry time). Larger repairs or section replacements typically take 3-5 days from start to paint-ready, driven mostly by compound dry time between coats.

Can you match my existing textured ceiling or wall?

+

Yes - smooth, orange peel, knockdown, skip-trowel, and vintage hand-troweled textures are all in our regular scope. We test a sample on scrap first, dial in the pattern, and only then apply to your wall.

Do you paint after the repair?

+

We prime the patch so it's ready for paint. For paint itself, we either coordinate with a painter you're already using or bring in a trusted painting partner to finish the job seamlessly. Ask when we quote.

Do you handle insurance-related repairs?

+

Yes. We provide itemized invoices with photo documentation, work with adjusters, and can coordinate with restoration companies handling water or fire remediation. Bring us in early and we'll help make the claim process cleaner.

What causes cracks to keep coming back?

+

Usually one of three things: mesh tape used where paper tape belongs (mesh flexes), framing that moves seasonally with humidity, or foundation/structural movement. We diagnose the cause and use paper tape plus setting-type compound to address movement - mesh-and-mud alone doesn't hold on moving surfaces.

Can drywall repair be done with the room occupied?

+

For most repairs, yes. We set up dust barriers, use vacuum-attached sanders to keep airborne dust to a minimum, and protect flooring and furniture. Larger repairs may require the room to be cleared.

How do I know if a section needs to be replaced rather than patched?

+

If the damage is larger than about 12x12", the panel is water-damaged and soft, there's mold behind it, or the paper facing is heavily torn or delaminated - replacement makes more sense than patching. We tell you honestly which one your situation calls for.

Does Illinois weather affect drywall work?

+

Yes. Lake-effect humidity swings, freeze/thaw cycles, and dry winter forced-air heat all move drywall subtly. We plan panel acclimation, use appropriate joint compounds for the season, and time coats so seams don't crack when your house cycles from 65% summer humidity to 20% winter humidity.

Do you offer emergency or same-week drywall repair?

+

For urgent situations (real estate showings, insurance photos, water damage after a leak), we work you in as quickly as scheduling allows - often within 1-3 business days. Call and tell us the timeline; we'll be straight about whether we can hit it.
